Guwahati is famous and largest city of Assam
State also largest metropolitan city of North Eastern region in India. Gauhati
was formerly known as Guwahati. The name is originated from Assamese word “Guva”
and it came from Sanskrit word Guvaka which means that areaca nut with its
plants and Hati means rows of areaca nut trees. Guwahati was capital of the
ancient state of kamarpura. It is also famous for kamakhya and other temples in
Guwahati. Also called “The city of Temples”.Guwahati located between the banks
of the Brahmaputra river and the foothills of the Shillong plateau with LGB
international airport to the west and the town of Narengi to the east .The
north Guwahati area is located to the Northern bank of the Brahmaputra river.Kamdev
is located 30 kilometers (19 miles) away from Guwahati.The city lies between
26.1445 0 N latitude and 91.73620 E longitude.
City is above sea elevation 50-680m
(164-2,231ft). Climate of Guwahati is a subtropical climate but also falling
just short of a tropical Savanna climate

and minimum temperature is 240C and annual rainfall is 3038 mm/119.6 inch.
There are many mythological story regarding the Guwahati city, where in it
could be find out that it was the capital of
Bhagadatta and Narakasura. Ancient time the name of Guwahati was known
as Pragjyotishpura served as the capital of Varman and Pala dynasties .It was
continued to be as capital of Assam till 10th /11 century AD .The
Ahom ruled in Assam for almost 600 years and they have maintained Guwahati as
their capital. The Mughals invaded Assam seventeen times, but they were
defeated by the Ahmos in the Battle .These battle took place in the outskirts
of Guwahati .After the defeat of Mughals, they did not dare to attack Assam
again. But over the period of time British captured the state of Assam .At
their ruling time they have change the name Gowhatty as Guwahati. Even ,before
1972 the Guwahati was the capital of Assam state in India .But after that the
capital of Assam was transfer from Guwahati to Dispur which is neighbourhood of
