Shillong is the capital of Meghalaya state .Meghalaya which means “The Adode of Clouds”. It is a north eastern state of India. Shillong is one of the famous hill station of India.The town is surrounded with the rolls hills like British Scotland. It also called as “ Scotland Of East “.Shillong lies between 23.570 N latitude and 91.88 E0 longtitude . Shillong is 1,491m above the sea level.It is situated on the Shillong plateau .The only major uplifted structure in the Northern Indian Shield. The city is located in the centre of the plateau and surrounded by three hills Lum Sopetbneng ,Lum Diengiei ,and Lum Shyllong.Shillong only 100 km from Guwahati .The climate of Shillong is while subtropical highland climate . The summer is cool and very rainy while winter is very cool yet dry. Shillong is subject to vagaries of the monsoon. The monsoons always from June to October end. Shillong is typically pleasant and pollution free. The average maximum temperature is 230 C and average minimum temperature is 40 C. The average rainfall is 3300 mm .Shillong was developed by British since 1864.Shillong was the capital of Assam during British Raj and Meghalaya became part Assam .After Indian independence Shillong come under the control India government .In 1972 , Meghalaya was totally separate from Assam state and formed a new state of India then Shillong became the capital of new made state of Meghalaya .
