Agartala is the Capital city of the Indian State of
Tripura. It is one of the largest cities in northeast India. It is Situated on
the banks of the Haora river near the Bangladesh border. It is 90 kilometres
from Dhaka (Bangladesh) from eastside and 2499 km from New Delhi .Agartala lies
on a plain land along the Haora river and the city also extends to the low
–lying hills on its northern part. Agartala lies between 23.83015 N
latitude and 91.28.680 E longitude. It is situated 13 m above the
sea level.The city has a tropical climate.The summer here have a good deal of
rainfall and average temperatures exist around
280 C, while the winters is short and mild with an average
temperature of 180 C. It has 220mm average annual rainfall in the
city causing flooded most of the year. One of the earliest kings of Tripura
Patardan B.C. 1900 ,long before the Mainkya Dynasty .According to
Chitrarath,folklore ,Chitrarath ,Lok nath Jivandharan ,Drikpati and Dharmapha
were important kings during the time of B.C.in Agartala. Present records reveal
that the area has been ruled by as many as Hindu rulers starting from the
mythological king Druhya to the last king of Tripura kirit Bikram kishore Mainkya.It
also came under Mughal rule .The state came under the governance of the British
in 1808.The ancient capital turn into princely state during the British Raj.
After independence it came under the control of Indian government and become
part of India.Type of tourism site available in Agartala are : Ujjayanta
Palace, Agartala Jagannath Mandir, Heritage Park, Rabindra Kanan, Vivek Uddyan,
Nehru Park, Children's Park, Albert Ekka Park, Lembucherra Park, Tripura State
Museum, Science Museum , Haveli Museum, Rupasi
