Chittorgarh is also known as Chittor or Chittorgarh. It is one of the major city in Rajasthan state.The city of Chittorgarh was a stronghold of the Rajput state at Medapata .Chittogarh city is home to the Chittorfort ,which is consided to be one of the largest fort in India and Asia. Chittorgarh is situated between 24.88 0N latitude and 24.88 0E longitude. It is also located at 394 metres (1292) ft above the sea level. It is also located on the bank of river Gamthari and Berach river, in the southern part of the state of Rajasthan and in the northwestern part of India.Chittorgrah is quite dry and parchid climate .It is quite hot in summer season.April to June is summer season and winter season is from October to February. The average maximum temperature is 43.8 0C and average minimum temperature is 11.60C . The average rainfall is 685 mm (27.0 ) inch.Chittorgarh was sacked three times : The first time in 1303 by Alauddin khalji ,second time by Bahadur Shah of Gujarat in 1535 and third time Mughal Emperor Akbar in 1568. All three occasions many men died and their beloved wives committed Jauhar( Suicide ) like Panna Dai and Rani Padmini . Hindu Rajput fought fiercely for their independence . In 1615 Amar Singh I from Mewar make friendship with Mughal’s to make peace treaty with Akbar’s successor Jahangir.Chittorgarh stay control under hindu rajput still after the British emperor take control over it and Chittorgrah become princely state under British government. After the independence of India, Chittorgrah become a part of Rajasthan and condidered to be a district of Rajsasthan state ,while Chittorgarh city became the district head quarter .
