India is enriched with its natural beauty which attract tourist from all over the world. There are 38 beaches exists in India .Climate condition of the Digha is moderate and favourable for the inbound tourist from different part of the countries of the world. West Bengal stands for one of the prominent and advanœ state of India. Spread between Himalayas in the north and the Bay of Bengal in the south. Digha is a seaside popular resort town in the state of West Bengal. Digha located at 21.68° N latitude to 87.55" E longitude . lt has an average elevation of 6 meters (22 feet).lt is located 183 km from Kolkata /Howrah via Mecheda and 234km via kharagpur.A new beach has been developed at New Digha which is about 2km form the old beach .This new beach is not only bigger than the old one, but might be considered a better one. In the summer days(March to June) the temperature does not exceed 30ºc and in winter(November to February ) it seldom falls below 20ºc. Digha sea beach is comprised of four sections generally found in the most of the popular beach of the world viz swash zone is alternately covered and exposed by wave run up, beach face ,sloping section below berm that is exposed to the swash of the waves ,wrack line the highest reach of the daily tide where organic and inorganic debris is deposited by wave action ,berm nearly horizontal portion that stays dry except during extremely high tides and storms causes sand dunes. Digha has sufficient ingredients necessary to be a success in the tourist industry .lt offer a clean town ,mile flat hard beach is one of the widest beaches in the world ,some artificial lakes for sailing ,colourlul fisherman's ward ,upcoming aquarium ,zoo ,science œntre ,snake farm ,salt extraction centre and art gallery are the attractive beauty of Digha . Added to thèse basic attractions the gently rolling sea almost screened from the town by thick casurinas forests makes DÎgha asequestered beauty spot of rare charm .The Bay of Bengal here is not so rough and for about a mile from the shore the shallow water makes ït quïte safe for swimming. The near by places of interest which could be visited by the tourist making Digha as base camp are Shankarpur, Chandaneshawar ,Taleri ,Mandarmani ,Subarnarekha river and Udaipur. The average distance of the near by place of attracfion is 9.16 km ,while maximum distant is I5 km and minimum is 2km . Digha was made by Brtisher. The available recorded history of Digha can be traced back as early as to the last quarter of 18th century .The beauty of the place was discovered by Warren Hestings , the first governor general of India known as “ Beercool Pargana”, the spot was highly attractive to the social aristocracy of that its climateappeal.The Digha beach has long been vulnerable to the soil erosion. As history would have it ,Hestings built a Bungalow for himself in
circa 1775 near Digha ,which ,now stands approximately 2 km into the sea. Digha in later years was under the Zamindary of Narajol Khans of Medinipur. In the pre – independence period. “An English tourist John Frank Smith started living here in 1923 and his writings provided a good exposure to this place . He convinced West Bengal chief minister Dr Bidhan Chnadra Roy to develop this place to be a beach resort”. After independence , Digha emerged as a tourist spot in the national tourist atlas in 1957 after , the cabinet decision of 1956-57. Apart from all thèse spectacular tourist spot Dïgha has good luxury budget hotels, resorts and govt lodges .All shorts of modern and tradïtional transports are available at Digha för the tourist.Type of festival & fair of the Digha are : Sabala Mela, Handicraft Fair, District Book Fair ,Food Festival, Durga Puja , Bike Rally , Swiss Tent, Hot Air Balloon ,Beach Volleyball,Photography,Spot Quiz ,Dhak Competition and water sports.Type of Cusinie available in Digha are : Pomfret ,Fish Curry ,Roha ,Bhetki ,Tiger Prawns and Parshe ,Rice and Roti, etc.Type of transport available in Digha are : Bus ,Cab ,Rental Car ,local train and Trekking.
