Jaisalmer  means the hill fort of  Jaisal . Jaisalmer has   a  nickename known as “ The Golden city”.The city and ancient Jaisalmer fort  is made of sculptured of yellow sandstone. The inside of fort  has royal palace and several ornate Jain temples. Jaisalmer city is situated  in the heart of the Thar Desert (The Great Indian Desert). Jaisalmer is located between 26.9157 ⁰ N latiude and 70.9083 ⁰ E longitude. Jaisalmer is  situated 225m above the sea level . Jaisalmer is a city of Rajasthan state of India.It is 575 kilometres away west of the state capital Jaipur .  Jaisalmer is closed near the border of Pakistan. Jaisalmer being an arid desert region it  is prone to extreme in terms  of temperature. The average maximum temperature is 49 ⁰C  and average minimum temperature is  5 ⁰C . The rainfall of city is 209.5  millimetres. Rawal Jaisal singh is official founder of kingdom of Jaisalmer  in 1153. Rawals dynasty ruled from 1153-`1661 here. Maharawals Dynasty ruled after 1818 collaborating with British govt till independent of India as a princely state while they have ruled over Jaisalmer from1661 to 1950.After that it  has came under the control of Indian  Government.
