famous in the international tourism world.Kovalam is a Malayalam word means
park of conconut trees.The village is
surrounded by different types of coconut trees ,which is the main reason to
name the village as kovalam. Kovalam
is known as the paradise of the
south.It is one of the oldest beach of
India. There have been three curve shaped beaches at kovalam ,which is major attraction for the
tourist coming from all over
the world. Shallow waters and low tidal
waves ,makes the beach
popular among foreign as well as
domestic tourists .Kovalam Beach is situated near the Arabian Sea ,the beach is
come under Thiruvananthapuram
metropolitan area in kerala ,India. It is 18 km south of the city center of
Thiruvananthapuram . Kovalam Beach
Beach sand is partially black due to the presence of mineral sands. Best time to visit in kovalam are September to May. Kovalam was discovered by Sethu Laxmi Bai ,the Regent Queen Of Travanco. Queen was developed the Beach resort as a Halycon Castile in 1920.Later years, her nephew convert it into sightseeing. In the British period the king Of Travancore invited the European Guests here to enjoy the beautiful beach site in the year 1930 and the European Guests appreciated the beach as excellent.After independence in the year 1970 this beach was open for the tourism industry so that every person who is interested to visit the beach could visit. Kovalam was fishing village and the village Convert into tourist destination. Apart from the beach of Kovalam , other place to visit are Lighthouse , Vellayani Lake , Halcyon Castle ,Kovalam Art Gallery , Valiyathura Pier , Vizhinijam Rock Cut Cave Temple, Neyyar Dam , Aruvikkara Dam ,Thiruvallam Parasurama Temple , Ashoka Beach ,Vizhinijam Village ,Chowara Beach, Edakallu ,Shri Padamanabhswamy Temple ,Karamanariver , Hawah Beach ,Samudra Beach and Artifical Off –Shore Coral Reef.
