Ujjain is famous of its old name Avantika  or Ujjayini . Ujjain is a city in Ujjain district of Indian State of Madhya Pradesh.City is one of the Hindu pilgrimage centre of Sapta Puri which is famous for the kumbh Mela ( Simhastha) held  there every 12 years . Ujjain is one of the seven sacred Hindu cities in India . It is home to the world  famous Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga one of the 12 Jyotirlingas in India .Ujjain is the fifth large city in Madhya Pradesh State. Ujjain has been selected as one of the hundred Indian cities to be developed as a smart city.Ujjain is located in the west –central park of India and is north of the upper limit of the Vindhya Mount Ranges .Ujjain lies on the Malwa Plateau ,it is higher than the north Indian plains and the land rises towards the Vindhya Range to the south. Ujjain located 23.1765⁰ N latitude and 75.7885⁰ E longitude and the land rises towards the Vindhya Range to the south. Ujjain is also situated 494 m (1620ft ) above sea level.The city is on the bank of the river Shipra which flows into the nearby Chambal.Ujjain is 57 km away from Indore and 197 km from the state capital Bhopal.Ujjain city features an typical version of the humid subtropical climate. The Ujjain average maximum temperature is 45⁰ C and  average mimimum temperature is 18 ⁰C. Ujjain City was part of Madhya Pradesh state of India.Ujjain has a history that dates back thousands of years. Ujjain was the capital of the Avanti Kingdom .In ancient period ,the city was known by many names ,include Ujjayini ,kumudvati ,kushashthali,Avantika ,Amravati and Churamani. The Mauryan and Gupta empires were ruled city here. After Mauryan and Gupta ,Muslim ruler ruled here upto 1750 and also destroyed temples here. After them ,Maratha ruler ruled here until  Indian  Independence under Gwalior State. After  Indian Independence ,Ujjain became part of the Madhya Bharat State ,which merged into Madhya Pradesh in 1956. Type  languages available in Ujjain  are : Marathi , Urdu, Malvi, Gujarati and Sindhi. Type of religious are available in  Ujjain   are  : Hinduisim ,Jainism, Buddhism and Islam.
