Ashoka ruled the city after conquered the kalinga Empire .Then it came under the  control of Pallavas .Cholas ruled 1000 AD to 1200 AD . In the 15^th century Krishna Deva Raya took the Vizagapatnam under his control.Then it was ruled by the Mughals in the 16 th century and by the end of the 18^th century it had come under French rule .

  

Control passed to the British Raj in1804 and it remained under British Colonial rule .After the independence of India in 1947 Government India   took the control of Vizagapatam.
