Bishnupur  is derived from the name  of the Hindu God Vishnu. Terracotta tiles used for the construction of temple at Bishnupur depict stories from Ramayana and Mahabharta .Bishnupur town  lies between 23⁰05’N  latitude and  87⁰19’E longitude and is located above sea levelof 59 metres (194 feet ).The town was a part  of the core area of Mallabhum in the past.The Bishnupur climate is hot, humid, in summer  it is hot and cold in winter. Bishnupur  average maximum temperature is 31.0⁰ C and average minimum temperature 18.0⁰ C. The average annual rainfall is 1442 mm.Bishnupur was ruled under the Gupta dynasty by  the local Hindu kings .Malla were  the r rulers  of   this place .Malla Dynasty built the famous terracotta

  

temple during the 17^th and 18^th centuries at this place. Since 1997 ,the temples  of Bishnupur is exist on UNESCO World Heritage site’s Tentative list.
