Chandigarh
is one of the early planned cities of India, after Independence .It was design
by international architects .It was planned by American planner Albert Mayer.
Chandigarh’s capital complex become part of world heritage, declared by UNESCO
in July
2016 at World Heritage Conference held in Istanbul. The name of Chandigarh has
arrived from merger of two words Chandi
and Garh .Chandi is called Hindu Goddess Chandi (Parvati) and Garh means that fortress.
Chandigarh is also called “The city of Beauty”. It is an union territory of India, capital of
two neighbouring states of Punjab and Haryana. It is bordered by the state of
Punjab from north,west and south and east is bordered of Haryana state.
Chandigarh is situated near the foothills of the Sivalik range of the Himalayas
and part of northwest India. Chandigarh is lying in the north plains which
cover vast area of flat and fertile land. The city is located between 30.740
N longitude and 76.79 0 E latitude .It is 321 metres (1053ft)
above sea level .The humid subtropical climate is Chandigarh city’s original
climate .City is very hot summers ,mild winter and unreliable rainfall and
great variation in temperature .The average maximum temperature is 43C0
and 5C0 .The city’s average
annual rainfall is 43.73
inches
.The capital of the Punjab Province went under the West Punjab of Pakistan. So it
become urgent need to form a capital for
East Punjab in India and the then government of India has took a decision to
develop Chandigarh city. Once the city
is developed government declared it as a capital of Punjab. It was inaugurated
by India’s first president Rajendra Prasad on 7 October in 1953 .After
,Indian Independence Punjab state was
one of the popular state of India ,but on the 1st November 1966
,Haryana was separated from Punjab state as demand by the local population .
Then Haryana became another new state of India. The then Indian Government
decided that Chandigarh city should
become capital for both states of Punjab and Haryana. Type of tourist
