Kalimpong is a small
town formarly known as Dalingkot and now it is a part of state of West Bengal
.Dalingkot was ruled by the Sikimese and Bhutanese kingdom up to mid 19th
century . Now it has renamed as Kalimpong .The district headquarter of Kalimpong
is located at kalimpong town. Gorkhaland Territorial Administration control the kalimpong district
region.This town is enriched with many tourist
destination .Recently many other tourism attractions have been
developed by the local authority to attract more number of tourist from
India as well as different parts of the world. Kalimpong lies between latitude
27.05940N and longitude
88.46950E.It is situated 1,247m(4,091ft) above the sea level
and total area of the district of kalimpong is about 9.168km2 (3,540
sq mi ).The kalimpong climate in autumn and spring season is perfect for the
tourist pointof view ,one can enjoy the cool holidays during that time.The
clear skies ,mild sunshine ,cool breeze and moderate temperature is best time
for excursion and short walks. Kalimpong’s
weather could be classified into five seasons Vij spring
,summer
,autamn ,winter and monsoon.The yearly average temperature remains about 180
C. The summer seasons is mild and pleasant with an average temperature of 250
C in the month of August . Followed by the monsoon rains between June to
September .In summer season maximum temperature is touched about 270
C while the minimum temperature remains at about 160 C. In winter the temperature
hover between 170 C to 50 C. The average rainfall is “approx
220m”. The Lepacha Community ,Limbu
,kirati tribes and migrants Bhutia are major population of kalingpong. After
the Anglo –Bhutan war in 1864
kalimgpong came under British
East India company .Due to commerce activity, many Nepolis and Sikkimis migrated here
from Sikkim and Nepal. After Indian independence in 1947 ,it became part
of West Bengal State .In 1962,many Tibetan people migrated from Tibet to
kalimpong after China captured Tibet.Most people of kalimpong are migrated from
different country it is therefore , a mixed culture could be found here. The type of tourist spot
available in Kalimpong are :Army Golf course,Crookety House,Neora National Park ,kalimpong
views,Durpin Monestry,Watersfall kalimpong ,Jaldhaks River Valley,Deolo
