Jodhpur is
popularly known as “Blue City “ , among the people of Rajasthan , as well as
the people of all over India. Jodhpur is the second largest metropolitan city
of Rajasthan state. The Jodhpur state was ruled as princely state by the kings
.It was capital of the kingdom of Marwar, which is now part of Rajasthan state.
Jodhpur is a popular tourist destination because it has unique tourism feature
like many palaces ,forts ,temples and Thar Desert . Jodhpur city lies between
26.23890 N latitude and
73.02430 E longitude. It is
situated 231 m above the sea level . It
shares common border with five districts such as Bikaner, Jaisalmer in north side &
north west ,Banner and Pali in southwest
& southesat and Nagaur in South North & East .The geographical area of
the city is 22850 sq km. Jodhpur has two types climate hot arid climate
and hot semi-arid climate. Jodhpur average maximum temperature is 41 0
C and average minimum temperature
is 22 0 C. The average rainfall is around 362 mm(14.3 in).The
Jodhpur city was founded by Rao Jodha in 1459.He was a Rajput chief from Rathore Clan , he and his family ruled Jodhpur upto the death ,of Rao
Chandrasan Rathore in 1581. Then it came under the control of Mughal emperors
.After Mughal
empire
decline ,Marwar decided to work together with Marathas against Mughal but it
does not work much.Then they take help from British and entered a subsidiary
alliance with them.A major revolt occurred in 1857 by Rathore nobles of Pali led by Thakur
kushal singh of Auwa but the rebels were defeated by the Brtish Army ,and Jodhpur ( state) came under the control of British government.
After India became independent in 1947 ,Jodhpur state merged into the Indian
republic. Later after the state Reorganisation
Act 1956 it was included within the state of Rajasthan by the Government
