The name as Shimala has been originated from Shamla a female Goddess Kalima. Shimla was summer capital of Himachal Pradesh. It is one of the large city of Himachal Pradesh. Shimla was summer  capital during British ruling period. Shimla is made  by  several hills and connected with ridges. Shimla is a peace and pleasure hill resorts for visiting tourists from all over world. Shimla’s snowfall attract tourists ,trekkers ,mountaineer and campers . Shimla is bounded by  the state  of   Uttarakhand  in  the  south –east , district  of  Mandi   and   kullu  In   the north ,kinnaur in the east ,Sirmaur in the south and Solan in the west. Shimala is  located in the north –west side Himalayan range, city is spread over 12km.The length of the town is 9.2 km west to east .Shimla has 18 sq km mountain range and it is situated 7866.10 ft or 2397 metres from sea level. The highest point Shimla Jakhoo hill which is 8051ft or 2454 metres. The  city lies  between  latitude  31 ⁰6⁰ 12 North and Longitude 77 ⁰10⁰ 20 East . Shimla ‘s  maximum  average  temperature 12.4⁰ C and  minimum  average  temperature 1.4 ⁰ C. It is a  subtropical highland climate (cwb ) under the koppen climate classification . Cold climate is generally because it  is  located at Himalayan ranges. Winter is very cold and summer are mild and pleasant. Sutley river is 13 

miles or 21 km away from city of Shimla. Today’s  present city was made by 18^th century by deforesting the area. Earlier the  only  civilization was  the   Jakhoo temple  and  a  few  scattered house. After the Anglo- Nepalese war Shimla came  under  the control of  British Government .  They made it their summer capital.
